Terms of Use

Terms of Use

These terms explain Vanto's service, your responsibility for media, third-party sources, technical compatibility, and Vanto Pro.

Effective: August 8, 2026Last updated: August 8, 2026

1. Software license and applicable terms

Welcome to Vanto, a personal media management and playback application provided by independent developer Mac Zhou for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac.

These terms supplement the Apple Standard End User License Agreement (“Apple Standard EULA”) that applies to Vanto distributed through Apple. The software license remains governed by the Apple Standard EULA; these terms primarily address Vanto's service, user content, third-party services, and Vanto Pro. Mandatory law and mandatory provisions of the Apple Standard EULA prevail if they conflict with these terms.

2. Nature of the service

Vanto is a media player and personal media-library client. It does not provide, host, sell, or distribute movies, shows, live channels, subtitles, or other media, and it does not operate a cloud server that receives your media files.

You may browse local files or connect services you configure, including Emby, Jellyfin, Plex, SMB, and WebDAV. Unless explicitly stated, Vanto is not affiliated with, an agent of, or endorsed by those third parties.

3. Your media and lawful use

You are responsible for media you add, access, play, download, cache, or share and must hold the ownership, license, or other lawful authority required to do so. You may not use Vanto to infringe copyright, privacy, publicity, trademark, or other rights, or to bypass access controls, digital rights management, payment restrictions, or law.

Downloads, offline playback, frame sharing, subtitles, and metadata are intended only for media you are authorized to process. Vanto does not verify the legality of a source, and general playback or connection features do not grant content rights.

4. Third-party sources and services

Vanto depends on servers, NAS devices, network protocols, metadata services, subtitle services, and Apple system services that you configure or use. Your accounts, subscriptions, licenses, content, availability, limits, and data relationship with those services are governed by their terms.

A third party may change an API, discontinue service, reject requests, restrict a region or account, or return inaccurate, incomplete, or incompatible data. Vanto works to maintain compatibility but cannot guarantee continued access to any third-party service, server, or protocol and is not responsible for its content, conduct, security, or policies.

5. Metadata, artwork, and subtitles

Titles, summaries, cast, artwork, ratings, subtitles, and other information may come from media files, NFO, your server, or third-party providers. Vanto aims to avoid incorrect matches but cannot guarantee that information is always accurate, complete, or suitable for every region or age.

Text, images, trademarks, and data remain the property of their respective owners. You must comply with provider licenses and attribution requirements and may not use Vanto's matching, caching, or presentation features for unauthorized redistribution.

6. Local files, downloads, and backups

Removing a source, cache, download, or app-managed import may cause permanent data loss. Uninstalling Vanto, system cleanup, device failure, or third-party changes may also make local content or sync state unavailable. Keep independent backups of important media and settings.

Vanto does not delete originals in external authorized directories. Deletion is limited to app-managed imports and downloads. Confirm the target and available device storage before acting.

7. Vanto Pro, purchases, and Family Sharing

Vanto Pro is offered through Apple StoreKit as an annual subscription and a lifetime non-consumable purchase. Price, currency, tax, subscription period, trial eligibility, renewal date, and refund rules are the App Store facts shown at purchase. Vanto does not directly process payment accounts or card details.

The annual subscription renews for the period shown by Apple unless canceled through Apple account settings before the current period ends. Apple rules govern restoration, refunds, billing disputes, and subscription management.

An eligible Family Sharing purchase shares only Vanto Pro feature access. It does not share media sources, accounts, credentials, playback records, favorites, downloads, settings, or Access Lock PINs. Expiration does not automatically delete local data, but restricted features may stop creating new work or switching additional sources.

8. Technical compatibility and playback

Playback depends on device and operating system, display, audio route, network, server, container, codec, subtitle format, HDR or Dolby metadata, and third-party implementations. A recognized file may still fail, transcode, use a reduced output mode, display differently, drift in subtitle timing, buffer, or reach a performance limit.

Vanto continues to improve compatibility but does not guarantee that every combination matches a particular player, television, audio system, or server client, or that metadata, sync, downloads, and remote connections never fail. Verify important playback on your own equipment.

9. Prohibited conduct

  • Use Vanto unlawfully, fraudulently, to infringe rights, or to undermine security;
  • Access a server, account, network, or content without authorization;
  • Circumvent Vanto Pro, Apple StoreKit, or third-party access restrictions;
  • Disrupt Vanto, distribute malicious code, or abuse network resources;
  • Reverse engineer, rent, resell, or redistribute Vanto where prohibited by applicable law.

10. Updates, availability, and termination

Vanto may change features, supported systems, and minimum requirements for security, compatibility, legal compliance, or product improvement. Material changes to these terms will be reflected on this page and its update date, with additional notice or consent where law requires it.

Vanto may restrict relevant features to the extent permitted by law if you materially violate these terms, the Apple Standard EULA, or law. You may stop using and uninstall Vanto at any time; back up anything you need first.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vanto is provided “as is” and “as available.” Except for warranties that cannot lawfully be excluded, Vanto does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation, complete compatibility, preservation of data, accurate metadata, or continued availability of third-party services.

Loss caused by third-party content or services, unauthorized media use, network or device failure, data loss, misconfiguration, or events outside Vanto's reasonable control remains the legal responsibility of the applicable party. Nothing in these terms limits mandatory consumer rights.

12. Contact

Localized versions of these terms are provided for convenience. Where local law permits, the English version is the reference text. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
