Privacy Policy

Vanto processes data primarily on your device and only uses other services when needed for features you choose, cross-device sync, purchases, and reliability.

1. Scope

Vanto is a personal media management and playback application provided by independent developer Mac Zhou for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac. This policy explains how Vanto handles data on those platforms.

Core commitment

Vanto does not provide media content or operate a cloud media server that receives your media files. Your media file contents, full file paths, and media-source passwords are not sent to the Vanto developer.

2. Data stored on your device

To provide browsing, playback, downloads, and preferences, Vanto may store:

  • Local media indexes, metadata, artwork caches, and playback settings;
  • Media sources and connection settings you add;
  • Offline downloads, external subtitles, and app-managed imports;
  • Playback progress, favorites, watched state, and recently watched history;
  • Access Lock settings and other app preferences.

Passwords, tokens, and other sensitive credentials for media servers and remote-file sources are stored in the system Keychain and used only to connect to services you select. Vanto does not create a separate Vanto user account.

3. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics

Vanto uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics by default to understand whether core features work, diagnose crashes, and improve stability. Vanto contains no advertising, does not request AppTrackingTransparency permission, and does not use this data for ad targeting, cross-app tracking, or profiling.

3.1 Product analytics

Vanto actively reports only typed, allowlisted, and bucketed product events, such as app and system versions, platform, page or source type, and success, failure, or duration buckets for playback, buffering, downloads, and purchase flows.

Custom events do not include media titles, people names, full file paths, server addresses, URLs, account details, credentials, or raw error text. The Firebase SDK may still process app-instance identifiers, device and system information, and network information required to operate its service.

3.2 Crash diagnostics

Crashlytics reports may include crash stacks, thread state, app and system versions, device type, and limited runtime context. Vanto does not intentionally attach media titles, paths, server addresses, accounts, or credentials.

Automatic screen reporting, advertising-personalization signals, and IDFV collection are disabled. Uninstalling Vanto stops future collection from the app; data already sent cannot be withdrawn from the device and is retained according to the Vanto Firebase configuration and applicable Google terms.

4. Apple services and cross-device sync

Vanto uses Apple StoreKit to verify and restore Vanto Pro purchases and Family Sharing entitlements. Apple handles payment accounts, cards, and billing details; the Vanto developer does not receive that payment information.

With Vanto Pro, supported settings may sync between devices signed in to the same Apple account through iCloud key-value storage. Playback progress, watched state, and favorites for SMB and WebDAV sources may sync through your private CloudKit database.

Remote-file user state uses a digest derived from a stable source, object revision, and file length together with required numeric state. It does not upload media titles, full paths, server addresses, usernames, passwords, tokens, or media files. Family Sharing shares only the StoreKit entitlement and never merges media or user data.

5. Services you configure

Vanto can connect directly from your device to Emby, Jellyfin, Plex, SMB, WebDAV, TMDB, TVDB, OpenSubtitles, Apple CloudKit, StoreKit, Firebase, and system media services.

Requests may contain credentials, media identifiers, search terms, network addresses, or device network information required by the selected service. Except for Firebase analytics and diagnostics, these requests go directly from your device to the service and do not pass through a Vanto-operated server. Each third party handles data under its own privacy policy and its relationship with you.

6. Purposes and sharing

Vanto processes data only to connect, browse, and play selected sources; save preferences and user state; provide entitled cross-device sync; verify Vanto Pro; diagnose reliability; meet legal obligations; and protect the app and its users.

Vanto does not sell or rent data and does not provide it to advertisers. Data is handled by Apple, Google Firebase, or a service you configure only when necessary for those purposes, or disclosed when valid law requires it.

7. Retention, deletion, and your rights

  • Local settings, indexes, and caches remain until you remove them, disconnect a source, clear related data, or uninstall Vanto.
  • Keychain credentials remain until you remove the source or Vanto removes credentials that are no longer linked.
  • Downloads, external subtitles, and imported copies remain until you delete them.
  • Your Apple account and system settings control iCloud and CloudKit data.
  • Firebase data is retained for the period configured for product analytics and diagnostics under applicable Google terms.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal data, or to complain to a local authority. Reasonable verification may be required before a request is fulfilled.

8. Children

Vanto is a general-purpose tool for managing personal media sources and is not directed specifically to children. Vanto does not intentionally ask children to provide personal information to the developer. A guardian who believes a child provided such information may contact us.

9. Security, international processing, and updates

Vanto uses the system Keychain, source-identity isolation, and encrypted connections supported by each service. No network transmission or electronic storage can be guaranteed completely secure; you remain responsible for protecting your media server, network, Apple account, and third-party credentials.

Apple, Google Firebase, or services you select may process data outside your country or region. Vanto limits this through data minimization and applicable service terms. If data types, purposes, or services change materially, this page and its update date will be revised, with additional notice or choice where required.
